After electroplating, the recessed areas of the pin that need to be colored are filled with colored enamel and then left to dry. Don't be misled by the name, once dried the enamel is hard, durable, and will still look beautiful decades later. Soft enamel pin finishes also have the option of applying an epoxy dome to the surface of the pin. This is a thin, clear coating that covers the entire front of the pin, leaving the surface of the pin completely smooth. The epoxy coating is not necessary, but for those who like their pins to have a smooth surface, we offer it.
